Photography mini-project – Edited & Re-Presented

A lack of colour to emphasise the letters' forms.

Shown here is a quick revisiting of the photography brief. I decided to present the photos I previously took, this time in black & white to see how it affects the perception of the letters within the environment. I think that by removing colour to simplify the image the letters stand out more and it brings a degree of consistency to each of the photographs rather than them appearing randomly taken and with no connection between them.

If I do a similar project in the future, I would set myself more specific guidelines to the photos’ content. For example, as I previously suggested, only taking pictures of letters in architecture or in nature. Doing so would make the collage have a more specific focus and more depth as a text – words made from letters in trees could be used to advertise local parks, for example.

Type the Sky by Lisa Rienermann is an example of this – an alphabet made entirely of the shapes formed by looking up at buildings against the sky.
